A Bobby alternative for when the reminder is the point
Bobby is a well-made tracker, and the people who leave it tend to leave over one thing. Its one and two star App Store reviews keep coming back to reminders that never arrived. If that is why you are here, this page sets out what Bobby does well, what to check in any replacement, and where Subby stands on each point.

Why people look for a Bobby alternative
Bobby has been on the App Store since 2016, and in the US store it holds a 4.7 average from more than 8,000 ratings. Most of the people using it are happy. The ones who leave mostly leave for the same reason. Read its one and two star reviews and one complaint comes back year after year, from 2019 to the end of 2025: the reminder never arrived, or it arrived with the wrong date on it. For an app whose job is to warn you before a charge, that is the failure that counts.
To be fair to Bobby, its latest release goes after exactly this. Version 3.10.4, from December 2025, is titled “Improved notifications for long-running subscriptions” in its release notes. If your trouble started before that update, install it and give it a month before you move anything.
The other complaints are smaller. Several reviewers say the free version stops at five subscriptions, and the listing sells “Unlock Subscription Limit” as its own purchase. And there is no Bobby on Android at all, which is the whole subject of Subby vs Bobby.
What Bobby does well
Bobby comes from Yummygum, a design studio in Amsterdam, and it looks like it. It also charges once instead of every month. The listing sells one-time unlocks, with an “All-in-one Pack” at $2.99, and nothing connects to your bank. You add each subscription yourself, which is how Subby works too. If Bobby's reminders reach you and the free limit or the unlock price doesn't bother you, keep it. Switching trackers costs an evening, and a tracker that already works is worth more than a better one you never finish setting up.
Bobby and Subby on the points that decide it
| Subby | Bobby | |
|---|---|---|
| When the reminder comes | You pick it per subscription, from the same day to a week ahead or any custom lead time, at the hour you set. | The listing says Bobby “notifies you when a bill is due”. App Store listing verified Oct 17, 2026 |
| What the reminder says | The amount, the card and the cycle. Mark it paid from the notification. Leave it unpaid and Subby keeps reminding you for up to a week. | The listing does not describe what a notification shows or any action on it. App Store listing verified Oct 17, 2026 |
| After a restart or an update | Subby checks its reminders again after a restart, an update or a time change, and plans iPhone reminders 35 days ahead. | The December 2025 release notes read “Improved notifications for long-running subscriptions”. App Store listing verified Oct 17, 2026 |
| Free version | No cap on subscriptions or categories. Ads pay for it. | Reviewers say it stops at five subscriptions. The listing sells “Unlock Subscription Limit” at $0.99. App Store reviews verified Oct 17, 2026 |
| Paying | One payment, Subby PRO Lifetime. It removes the ads and adds screenshot import, cloud backup and the widget. | One-time in-app purchases, with an “All-in-one Pack” at $2.99. App Store listing verified Oct 17, 2026 |
| Free trials | A trial carries its end date and the price it becomes, and a reminder arrives before it converts. | The listing does not mention free trials. App Store listing verified Oct 17, 2026 |
| Insights | Free for everyone: twelve months of real spending, price creep per service, the year ahead and what cancelling has saved you. | “Insights in your fixed costs” and an overview of what you spend, per the listing. App Store listing verified Oct 17, 2026 |
| Platforms | Android and iPhone. A PRO backup to your own Google Drive carries the list from one to the other. | Apple devices only. A Google Play search finds no Bobby app. Play search verified Aug 12, 2026 |
What to check in any Bobby alternative
Whichever app you try next, these checks take ten minutes and catch most bad fits.
- Test a reminder before you trust it. Add one subscription that renews tomorrow, set its reminder for today, and see whether it arrives. Then restart the phone and try again.
- Read what the reminder says. A notification that names the amount and the card lets you decide on the spot. One that only names the service sends you into the app to find out.
- Fill the free tier before you pay. Add your whole list first. A cap tends to appear when you are halfway through.
- Look for trials. A free trial is the charge most likely to surprise you, because it has never charged before. The app should take an end date and warn you ahead of it.
- Find the way out. Check that the app exports or backs up your list somewhere you control before you type in forty subscriptions.
Subby passes the first four on the free version. Backup to your own iCloud or Google Drive is part of PRO, and your payment history exports as a CSV file at any time.
Moving your list from Bobby to Subby
- Open Bobby and screenshot every subscription with its next payment date showing.
- Install Subby. There is no account to create and no bank to link.
- Add each subscription from the 600+ built-in services, or let PRO's screenshot import read the shots you just took. You check each one before it saves.
- Set the lead time for each reminder, and the hour reminders arrive in Settings.
- Keep Bobby until Subby's first reminders have reached you, then delete it.
Choose Bobby if…
its reminders reach you, the free limit or a $2.99 unlock is fine by you, and you like how it looks. Its December 2025 update deserves a month before you rebuild anything.
Choose Subby if…
you have stopped trusting the reminders, you want every subscription tracked without paying, you start free trials, or you need the same list on Android. Each Subby reminder names the amount and the card, and you mark the payment paid from the notification.
