What ten months of increases added up to

One way to feel the cumulative effect: take a seven-service basket and price it before and after this round of rises.

BasketBeforeNow
Netflix Standard, Disney+ Premium, Hulu (With Ads), HBO Max Standard, Paramount+ Premium, Spotify Individual, YouTube Premium $99.93/month $112.43/month verified Aug 12, 2026

That's $12.50 more a month, or $150 a year, for exactly the same seven services — a rise of about 12.5% in ten months. That total is our arithmetic on the dated list prices in the table above: it is not a published statistic, and it isn't a claim about any real household's bill.

The increase timeline

  • 21 October 2025 — Disney+ and Hulu. Disney+ with ads and Hulu with ads each rose by $2 a month, Disney+ Premium by $3. New subscribers paid from that date; existing subscribers on their first bill on or after it (Variety, September 2025).
  • 21 October and 20 November 2025 — HBO Max. All three tiers rose, monthly and annual. New subscribers moved on 21 October, existing subscribers from 20 November on their next billing cycle (HBO Max Help Center).
  • 15 January 2026 — Paramount+. Essential and Premium each rose by $1 a month, with steeper increases on the annual plans (Variety, December 2025).
  • February 2026 — Spotify. US Premium prices rose across Individual, Duo, Family and Student, announced on 15 January 2026 — the third US increase in four years (CNBC, January 2026).
  • March 2026 — Netflix. All three US plans rose, the ad-supported tier included (Variety, March 2026).
  • April to June 2026 — YouTube Premium. Announced in April for new subscribers; existing US subscribers saw it on their June statements after at least 30 days' notice (Variety, April 2026).

Before you assume you're paying the price above: increases usually apply to new subscribers on the announcement date and to existing subscribers on their next billing cycle — HBO Max's two dates were a month apart. What matters is your own renewal date, not the date the news broke.

Why your bill won't match the list price

  • Annual plans lag. If you paid for a year up front, the new price applies at renewal, not on the announcement date.
  • Bundles move separately. A bundle is its own product with its own increase schedule, so bundle subscribers rarely see the standalone change on the standalone date.
  • Third-party billing. If you subscribed through Apple, Google Play, Amazon Channels, Roku or a carrier, that intermediary bills you, may pass the increase on later, and is also the only place you can cancel.
  • Tax. List prices exclude sales tax, which varies by state.
  • Introductory rates end quietly. A six-month promotional price ends on a date nobody reminds you about.

What to do when a price goes up

73% of consumers say they're frustrated by entertainment services constantly raising prices, and 61% say they'd cancel their favourite service over a $5 monthly rise (Deloitte Digital Media Trends, 2026). Between those two numbers sits a decision worth making deliberately rather than in irritation:

  1. Find your next renewal date for the service in question. That's the day the new price actually reaches you.
  2. Check the tier you're on against the tier you use. Ad-supported tiers, stream counts and 4K are the usual difference between two prices in the table above.
  3. Compare the annual option against twelve monthly charges. On several services the annual plan is the cheaper arithmetic, and on some it's the same.
  4. Decide per service on the annual cost, not the monthly one. A $2 rise is $24 a year, and $24 is a number you can have an opinion about.
  5. If you cancel, cancel where you subscribed — the app-store list if you signed up through one. We have step-by-step guides for Netflix and Disney+.
  6. Set a reminder a few days before the next renewal so the following increase arrives as a decision, not as a surprise line on a statement.

How this tracker is maintained

Reviewed quarterly. Last reviewed 12 August 2026; next review November 2026. Prices are verified against each service's own pricing or help page where that page is publicly readable — HBO Max, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+ and Spotify all publish theirs. Netflix's plan page is region-locked, so its figures are verified against dated reporting from an established trade outlet, and the row says so. Anything we can't verify from a source we can link, we leave out rather than guess.
